SUNDAY AFTERNOON FEVER:
DALLAS COWBOYS CHEERLEADERS MOVIES

The first DCC Movie, Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders, featured the 1978-79 squad. The storyline centered on an undercover reporter (Jane Seymour) sent by her boss (Bert Convy) to get some dirt on the squeaky-clean sideline dancers. Of course, she discovered that the women were as wholesome as their image. Original DCC Director Suzanne Mitchell was played by Laraine Stephens, while DCC Choreographer (and former Broadway actress) Texie Waterman played herself. Other actors included New York Yankee Bucky Dent and Lauren Tewes of Love Boat fame. At the time, Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders was the highest rated television show in history, and still has a cult following to this day. Click on the photo above for a larger version.

The second DCC movie, Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders II, featured the 1979-80 squad. This time the story had the Cheerleaders auditioning for the Show Group that would entertain the troops on an upcoming USO Tour. Both Texie Waterman and Laraine Stephens reprised their roles. Also appearing in the sequel were John Davidson and former Dallas Cowboy running back Duane Thomas. Like the first movie, DCC II also did well in the ratings department. Although the squad had already established great popularity, both of these flicks cemented the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders as a household name with tremendous drawing power.
