Dying Man Receives Wish To Meet Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Click here to view video
May 9, 2008 TEXAS (NBC) -- A terminally ill Texas man recently received his dying wish to meet the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders. Mark Harris, Jr., a 26-year-old cancer patient, was all smiles as the cheerleaders greeted him.
Vistacare, the hospice organization caring for Harris, helped grant his wish. The organization said his prognosis is day-to-day.
"It hurts a lot, but at first, you just let it go because I know that God is with me, I'm not worried," Harris said.
His family has known for months about the prognosis.
"Some days are funny, some days are a lot of fun and laughter, some days are very sad, some are very heart wrenching," his father, Mark Harris Sr., said.
The day his wish was granted was one of the good days as he was finally able to meet the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders.
He also met the Dallas Maverick Dancers on the same day.
Harris said as he continues to cherish each moment with his family he has one last wish.
"My wish is that I can just go to heaven and look down and see my family succeed," Harris said. |
Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader Stands Tall In Sports Illustrated
That's DCC Christina Parker featured on the upper left corner of the S.I. 2008 swimsuit calendar cover Christina's Sports Illustrated Photo Gallery February, 2008 Featuring NFL cheerleaders is a first for Sports Illustrated. Never before had the magazine included a collection of NFL cheerleaders in the well-timed issue hitting the stands annually the middle of February when most of the country is blanketed with bone-chilling weather. This year, a section of the issue features 12 NFL cheerleaders, selected after going to New York back in June for a one-day photo shoot with the S.I. photography team. The cheerleaders posed in designed swimwear inspired by their uniform colors. And for Christina Parker and the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, it's one thing to be featured on a page in the NFL Cheerleaders' section of the issue. S.I. has devoted four pages to the debut of the NFL cheerleaders in its Swimsuit Issue, and has included cheerleaders from the Cowboys, Buccaneers, Chargers, Dolphins, Eagles, Falcons, Jaguars, Patriots, Raiders, Redskins and Texans (twins). But it's entirely another to be the chosen one highlighting one of the cover's subheads. Parker's small cutout figure calls attention to the headline at the top of the page above the magazine's logo: NFL Cheerleaders Make Their Swimsuit Debut. "It was a surprise Christina was on the cover, for sure," said Kelli Finglass, long-time director of the DCC. "Just to have your image on the cover is a very pleasant surprise." Misty Duncan Selected as 2008 Pro Bowl Cheerleader

February, 2008 Five year DCC Misty Duncan represented America's Sweethearts at the 2008 Pro Bowl in Honolulu, Hawaii on Sunday, February 10. Misty is retiring after this season, so what a great way to say farewell to her distinguished tenure on the squad. Misty was a member of the Show Group and was voted as this year's Pro Bowl representative by her DCC sisters. It's no surprise that by all accounts, she did a great job as ambassador for the Cowboys organization in Hawaii. |

Are the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Smarter than a Fifth Grader?
The DCC pose with the precious 5th graders of Fox TV February 4, 2008 Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Christina Parker, Sarah Gourley, Nicole Hamilton, Megan Fox and Makenzie Swicegood all moved to the head of the class on January 24 as they made a nationally-televised appearance on Fox's wildly popular game show Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? Good news, we're pretty sure they are. After all, in order to make the exclusive NFL squad, the ladies must have at least a high school education - and most have gone on to achieve higher education. The Cheerleaders' participation in the special two-hour episode served to surprise a contestant who is a paramedic from Sunland, Calif., and who also just happens to be a big Cowboys fan. What Do Roto Rooter and the DCC Have in Common? The Pimped Out Powder Room L to R: McKenzi, Meredith, Carmen and Megan
February 4, 2008 The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, arguably the most glamorous ladies in their industry recently made a trip to New York City, also synonymous with glamour to promote what else, a bathroom. But of course, this is no ordinary bathroom; this is the pimped out... er uh, the primped out fantasy bathroom for ladies. That's right, the DCC is teaming up with Roto-Rooter to offer the perfect place to watch the Big Game --or maybe even catch an episode of the DCC hit series "Making the Team". What makes this bathroom so posh? Well for starters: a salon-style hair dryer, a pedicure tub, a Nintendo Wii and a triple-threat, flat-screen TV that also functions as a mirror and a heated towel rack. "What woman wouldn't want these amenities?" asks Megan Fox, four-year cheerleading veteran. "I'm all for pampering now and again, but the real beauty of the Pimped out Powder Room is the multi-tasking it encourages. You can dry your hair, soak your feet, make a cup of tea, check your e-mail and catch up on the game - all while sitting on what's sure to be the most comfortable seat in your home. They've thought of everything!" Fox was joined by fellow DCC Carmen Butler, Makenzi Swicegood and Meredith Oden as they promoted the Roto-Rooter Sweepstakes in New York City on Tuesday January 22nd. "This is not as intense as the summer camps; it's really more about having fun and hanging out with the Cheerleaders while giving the parents a few extra hours to get holiday errands done." FORMER DCC HELP HONOR SCHRAMM AT INDUCTION CEREMONY

October 29, 2003 Two hundred former Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders were on hand Sunday, October 12, 2003 to honor Tex Schramm, the man who was instrumental in creating their organization. Gay Carter, a cheerleader from 1977-79, said she was honored to be a part of Schramm's induction into the Ring of Honor. Carter and the rest of the alumni cheerleaders lined up on either side of the podium, wearing Cowboys jerseys with their alumni year on it.
"It means so much to me -- Mr. Schramm was almost like a second father to me," Carter said. "He was always there for us. He loved us. He is who made the cheerleaders the cheerleaders."
Carter remembers the time Schramm came to the funeral of former choreographer Texie Waterman, who died in October 1996. Carter, 46, of Coppell said Schramm comforted the girls, and "tears were rolling down his cheeks." "It meant so much because he was the epitome of excellence," Carter said. "We had the utmost respect for him."
The cheerleaders hung a sign in the northeast side of the stadium reading, "Thank You Tex -- from the Cheerleaders." |

FOUNDER OF THE DALLAS COWBOYS CHEERLEADERS DIES AT 83
 Tex Schramm
July 15, 2003 Text by Mickey Spagnola at dallascowboys.com IRVING, Texas - Tex Schramm, the father of the Dallas Cowboys, the man who nurtured the rise of this one-time expansion franchise back in 1960 from a winless team all the way to "America's Team" during his 29-year tenure, died at his Dallas home Tuesday morning (7/15/03) at the age of 83. Schramm, already a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, winner of two Super Bowls while with the Cowboys and the architect of the franchise's famed streak of 20 consecutive winning seasons, fell three months short of marching into Texas Stadium for one last hurrah when he was scheduled to be inducted into the team's renowned Ring of Honor. The blackdcc website would like to offer condolences to the Schramm family. As we all know, Tex Schramm is the man who had the vision to create America's Sweethearts, the most famous cheerleaders in the world. He will be missed, but his legacy will live on in the Cowboys and the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. |
